Multifunctional sports arena

A concept visualisation by the studio, not a commissioned or completed building.

Large-span civic buildings in the valley usually end up as a shed with a façade attached. This study takes the span itself as the form: two ribbed shells, one for the arena and a smaller one for training and events, set apart so the ground between them becomes the public forecourt and the overflow space. The interest is whether a building this big can be approached on foot from a normal street without a podium.
