Concept studyFashmi settlement study
A settlement layout for a hill site in Dolakha, planned along the contour rather than across it.
A concept study by the studio, not a commissioned or completed scheme.
Relocated and new hill settlements are usually set out as a grid on a levelled platform, which is expensive on a slope and produces streets nobody can walk up. This layout runs the houses in rows along the contour instead, so each row shares a retaining line and a level lane, and the gaps between rows become the drainage and the public route. The roofs are kept to a single pitch and material so the settlement reads as one place from across the valley.

A study, not a completed building. It is published because the thinking is ours.
