Living room, Chabahil

A formal sitting room inserted into an existing Chabahil house.

This is a room in a house that was already standing, so the work is furniture, light and one wall.

The seating is arranged as a closed square around a low table — the layout a Nepali front room actually needs when guests arrive in numbers — and the tall windows are left unobstructed. A perforated screen panel on the end wall carries the only pattern in the room, and the palette is kept pale so the planting and the daylight do the rest.
